Changing The Description Of Links Being Shared To Facebook Before Posting

When sharing a link to Facebook, you often have a choice to edit certain fields (Article Title, Description..) However, sharing widgets do not offer this functionality - when using a widget like the ones on your RealtyNinja listings page to auto-share a listing, you can not customize the description or the title of the link - it appears as is. In this article I'm going to show you how to share a link to your listing on Facebook the Ninja way.

Step 1: Go to the listing you would like to share in your web browser

Step 2: Highlight the entire URL (web address) of the listing with your mouse and copy it

Step 3: Open in a new browser window or tab and log in to your account.

Step 4: Once you've logged in, make sure you're in the Home Feed or on your Profile. In both cases, there will be a box at the very top that says "What's on your mind?" in it. This is where you post your status, your pictures, videos, links, etc.

*Note* If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you probably have never used Facebook, in which case you should refer the task and this article to somebody who has and can help you out.

Step 5: Paste the URL you copied in step 2 into this box. Wait for the link imagery and description to load. Once it's loaded, you should see something like this:

Step 6: In the bottom right corner you can see the blue button to "Post". Before you hit this button and make your post public, there are a couple things that you can do:

  1. Add a Post Description: In the screenshot above, where I annotated to "Paste URL Here", you can now add some descriptive text before the URL, or you can remove the URL altogether. The link is attached to this post now, so the URL does not NEED to be there.
  2. Edit the Link Title: Where is says "Example Listing (HD) - West Vancouver House/Single" etc. in the screenshot above, if you simply click on that text, you can modify it to say whatever you want!
  3. Edit the Link Description: Where it says "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur" etc. in the screenshot above, if you simply click on that text you can modify it to say whatever you want!

See the screenshot below to see how I've modified the listing above

Step 7: Once you're happy with the way your post is looking and reading, click the blue Post button in the bottom right and you will have published the article.

Nice work, Ninja!
